The Syracuse Press Club Awards Banquet may be postponed, but we will still announce our special honors and award winners online!
The Onondaga County Clerk’s Office has been selected for the Philip A. Hofmann President’s Award for Best News Source. This award recognizes those who provide access, information, and insight to journalists covering stories important to Central New York citizens.
Since 2017, Onondaga County Clerk Lisa Dell and her office have worked to make all court documents available online for users who register and pay a fee. In that time, the office has played a significant role in making courts, information and county government more accessible to the public, and to the press.
This is what we should expect from a public servant. The efforts and decisions to prioritize the digitizing of public records have made it easier and faster for reporters to do our jobs using modern tools. The office is also consistently accessible to the public in person, where clerks are well-trained and adept at helping members of the public and media track down records without a hassle.
Thank you to Dell and her office for setting a fine example for news sources across Central New York.
We look forward to celebrating your work at the awards banquet (when social distancing is over)!
