Cortland Standard’s Al Vieira selected for 2020 Professional Standards Award

Al Vieira is the 2020 winner of the Selwyn Kershaw Professional Standards Award.

The Syracuse Press Club is pleased to announce Al Vieira of the Cortland Standard as the 2020 winner of the Selwyn Kershaw Professional Standards Award. This award is presented to individuals whose high standards in performing their work serve as an inspiration to others.

Today, Al is a copy editor at the Cortland Standard, where he has produced award-winning work for many years. Previously, Al’s career took him to USA Today, and to newsrooms in Albany, Binghamton, Watertown, New York City, New Jersey and Florida. Throughout his 40-year career, Al also mentored graphic artists, investigative reporters, managing editors and executive editors, who have gone on to work at community dailies, the Philadelphia Inquirer, NBC Sports, USA Today, Reuters and as Bob Woodward’s reporting assistant.
