2021 SPC Awards Banquet postponed to September

Throughout the pandemic, New York State has not prioritized media professionals as frontline workers, though many of us must work in the public on a daily basis. Although some local journalists have been vaccinated at this point, not everyone has been so lucky.

We are hopeful that all local media, faculty and student journalists, will be able to get their vaccines this spring and summer.

Our 2021 SPC Awards Banquet was set to take place on Saturday, May 1, 2021. Sadly it is still too early to host a 200-person indoor banquet at this time, according to state regulations.

However, we are optimistic and confident that we will be able to safely host a gathering of this size by the fall.

Out of an abundance of caution, we have postponed our 2021 SPC Awards Banquet to Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021 at the Collegiate Hotel and Suites (formerly the Genesee Grande).

We look forward to that day immensely.

Nominations for our club honors remain open until Saturday, March 27, 2021, to submit for any of the following of these top awards:

Nominate for Journalist of the Year

Nominate for Best Professional Standards

Nominate for Newcomer of the Year

Apply for Devesty-Williams Scholarship

Nominate for News Source of the Year

Nominate for Wall of Distinction

Right now, press club officials across the U.S. are reviewing your submissions for this year’s competition and are sending their judgments.

We will still release the list of 2021 winners in the late spring.

If you have questions about the banquet, please contact syracusepressclub@gmail.com.

2021 marks the Syracuse Press Club’s 70th year and we have every intention of celebrating that anniversary with you, along with recognizing your excellent journalism from the past year.

Thank you for your patience and hard work throughout this pandemic. Stay well, and we’ll see you soon.

Katrina Tulloch, SPC President
