The Syracuse Press Club will hold a professional development panel on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020, called “Political Reporting in the Trump Era.” Syracuse University professor Joel Kaplan, Associate Dean for Professional Graduate Studies at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications will moderate a panel of three national political reporters to discuss how they cover the candidates and major issues in the 2020 election.

We’re interested in the challenges they face and what goes on behind the scenes covering 2020 candidates and issues of national interest. How do they decide what to report on and develop sources on that beat? What has changed about how they do their job? What can local journalists do to enhance their work? The panel will a Q&A session at the end. Refreshments will be served.

This event is free and open to the public.
