NewsChannel 9’s Edward “Eddie” Jones will be inducted to the Syracuse Press Club’s Wall of Distinction in 2020.
The Wall of Distinction is where outstanding journalists in Central New York are permanently enshrined, and it is located in the theater lobby of the John H. Mulroy Civic Center in downtown Syracuse.
Eddie has been employed at WSYR-TV for nearly 38 years as a photojournalist. In that time, Eddie has covered every major news event in central New York, from presidential visits to major sporting events to the biggest storms.
Colleagues say Eddie’s coverage of the 1998 Labor Day Storm was legendary, as he was the only journalist to get video during the storm’s early morning hours (https://youtu.be/OAA_LKVuadE). Eddie doggedly pursued the story with reporters, who were sometimes reluctant to push forward.
Eddie has won numerous Syracuse Press Club awards and has been part of team efforts that won Murrow, New York State Broadcasters and Associated Press awards. Even as he navigates through his third battle with cancer, colleagues say Eddie is at work every day. Eddie no longer covers news stories on the street, but remains an integral part of the NewsChannel 9 news team as an editor for the noon and early evening newscasts.
Congratulations Eddie! A WoD induction is the highest honor given by the Syracuse Press Club.
Eddie is one of two Wall of Distinction honorees this year — the other is Michael Greenlar of The Post-Standard and syracuse.com.
