Syracuse television stations will air a special Wednesday evening called "Protecting Our Children."   The broadcast takes an in-depth look at the problem of sexual, physical and verbal abuse of children in CNY and features reports by YNN anchor Julie Chapman, Newschannel 9's Dan Cummings, NBC 3's Matt Mulcahy, CBS 5's Michael Benny and WCNY's Farah Jadran. The program, was produced by WCNY's Amy Manley. It airs on WCNY at 6pm and most local stations at 7pm.

The special was produced in cooperation with the McMahon-Ryan Child Advocacy Center in Syracuse  The broadcast takes viewers on tour of the center through a child's eyes, contains interviews with survivors of abuse, examines the challenges facing child abuse investigators, and explores New York's statute of limitations in such cases.

“We’re honored to partner with all of the Syracuse television and radio stations that have united for this important program. Together, we want to shed light on abuse that, as we have seen, happens right here in our community,’’ said Robert J. Daino, WCNY’s President and CEO. “The mission here is to better educate the public so we can better protect our children.”

In addition to the program, a panel of experts will take calls from viewers at WCNY's studios at  1-877-880-5211.
