  • Bill Simmons on pivoting to video, paid subscriptions and that time he almost gave up on journalism
Bill Simmons may be one of the biggest names in sports journalism, but he didn't start that way. Before he joined ESPN, before he was fired, before he founded his own site, he was a blogger for AOL Digital Cities Boston grinding out posts for $50 per week. "I would’ve done anything to get read […]
  • New Los Angeles Times CEO will be paid a starting salary of $1 million
The new CEO and publisher of the Los Angeles Times will have a starting salary of $1 million, and he's positioned to make much more depending on the financial success of the Los Angeles Times and the company that owns it, Tronc. • Are alt-weeklies dying or just moving online?
In 2009, the Association of Alternative Newsmedia had 135 alt-weeklies in its membership, according to Pew Research Center. In 2015, that group had 117 members. This year, it has 108. About the Press Club
press club logo.jpg

The Syracuse Press Club welcomes journalists and communications specialists from throughout the Central New York region.   Our organization is for those who work in print, broadcast, or Internet journalism. The press club is also open to those who work in communications or public relations for corporations, government, or not-for-profit organizations.
We need YOU to get involved and make the press club a more dynamic and relevant organization in this rapidly changing media world.

Each year, the Press Club holds its annual scholarship and professional recognition dinner in May.  This is a chance for everyone to get together for a night out and celebrate the best journalism in Central New York.
The club also honors the members of our profession each year with an induction ceremony for the Wall of Distinction.   The Wall is located on the main floor of the John H. Mulroy Civic Center. It began in 2000 as a place to  enshrine communications professionals whose standards of excellence, pioneering spirit and contributions to the profession serve as an example to others.
The Syracuse Press Club also holds a variety of programs aimed at helping communications professionals better do their jobs.  Past events have included tours of the Onondaga County 911 center,  a  visit from a former Post-Standard reporter now covering Iraq for the LA Times, and a talk from a disaster official in Louisiana following Hurricane Katrina.
We are always looking for new members who can help with our current programs or help launch new ones.  Follow the links on this page for information on joining!
