Statement from the Syracuse Press Club Board of Directors on the imprisonment of former Post-Standard copy editor Rodney Sieh: The Syracuse Press Club calls upon our US senators from New York, Liberian authorities and other lawmakers to push for the release of Rodney Sieh, a man who served our CNY community in the Syracuse press corp as a copy editor at The Post-Standard. We need to advocate for our colleagues. Mr. Sieh's imprisonment is a detriment to the free press concept, and represents a threat to all society that atrocities will be concealed if journalists are silenced by the threat of jail. We urge his immediate release. Per the Committee to Protect Journalists, Sieh was jailed and his Liberian news outlet "FrontPageAfrica" was shut down after failing to pay damages from a libel conviction. Sieh, his publication and another reporter were sued after the paper reported official findings from an official government document." More details: |

"Woe to that nation whose literature is cut short by the intrusion of force. This is not merely interference with freedom of the press but the sealing up of a nation’s heart, the excision of its memory." --Alexander Solzhenitsyn |
