NewsChannel 9 Gets a "Music Makeover"
Written by Josh Cradduck

If you watched WSYR-TV NewsChannel 9 at 5 p.m. on Monday, you may have noticed something slightly different about the newscast. You probably didn't need to be much of a TV news junkie, either, to do a double-take.

The station has changed it's longtime music package.

"The Local Station," has gone from Gari Media's "News Station" to "Aerial" by Stephen Arnold music. Why such a big deal? This is the first significant change of music the station has seen in 20 years. WSYR had been using variations of the "News Station" package since Ron Lombard (now YNN news director) purchased the cut in 1993 while serving as news director of what was then WIXT-TV.

The station also debuted a slightly different talent open, replacing one that was shot 3 years ago for it's transition to high definition.

"If none of us ever read a book that was “dangerous,” had a friend who was “different” or joined an organization that advocated “change,” we would all be just the kind of people Joe McCarthy wants. Whose fault is that? Not really [McCarthy’s]. He didn’t create this situation of fear. He merely exploited it, and rather successfully."
