Press Club announces awards finalists
I want to thank you for entering the Syracuse Press Club’s Annual Professional Recognition Awards Contest. More than 260 entries were submitted this year – a great number considering the upheaval in the Central New York news industry. We thank all of you for participating in the contest.

Volunteers from eight press clubs across America judged the entries and selected first- and second-place winners in 51 competitions in TV, radio, print, online and college journalism categories.

Below are the names of this year’s award winners. The Press Club will not disclose until our May 4 awards dinner at Drumlins Country Club who won first place and who won second. The names of winners in the attached document are randomly scrambled. It would be a mistake to assume you won first place based upon the order of names. Decisions of the judges are final.

Please attend the awards banquet to collect your award or support your peers. In addition to the contest winners, we will honor at Drumlins seven people receiving special club awards for career achievement, professional standards, new journalist and best news sources. It is always a fun event. The dinner cost $40 per person. Beginning later today, you can make reservations on the Press Club’s website at www.syracusepressclub.org. Please make your reservations by May 1st. I hope to see you at the dinner.

I want to encourage all of you – those who won this year and those who didn’t – to work hard in 2013 and enter your best work in the Press Club’s next contest, in January 2014.

The Press Club’s contest is conducted completely digital on a website hosted at www.betternewspapercontest.com. Small Town Newspapers, the company that runs that website, has done a wonderful job for us for two consecutive years.

Finally, please consider becoming a member of the Press Club. We need your help to continue to provide career development programs and social activities for journalists in Central New York. You can become a member or renew your membership at www.syracusepressclub.org.

Thanks again,

Mike McAndrew
Press Club contest coordinator

Please note the names of winners and media organizations are in random order.  We will announce at the May 4 awards dinner who won first and second place awards.
