Nominate someone for one of the SPC's 'Club Awards'

The deadline has passed for submitting an entry in our annual Professional Recognition competition.  But there is still time to nominate someone for one of our 'Club" awards.  Each year the Syracuse Press Club honors journalists with several special awards.  These awards are open to print, broadcast, and new media journalists working in the 21 counties served by the club.

Media located in the following counties are eligible: Onondaga, Madison, Cortland, Cayuga, Oswego, Jefferson, St. Lawrence, Lewis, Herkimer, Oneida, Otsego, Delaware, Chenango, Broome, Tompkins, and Seneca counties; and as far west as State Route 14 in Tioga, Chemung, Wayne, Schuyler and Yates counties.

The Gus Bliven-Joe Ganley-Mario Rossi Career Achievement Award is presented annually to a person who has excelled in his or her chosen career path in journalism.

The Selwyn Kershaw Professional Standards Award is presented to individuals whose high standards in performing their work serves as an inspiration to others.

The A. Brohmann Roth Newcomer Award is presented to individuals who are just beginning their careers in journalism.   To be eligible for this award, nominees must be in their first three years of employment in print, broadcast, or new media.

We also honor newsmakers that regularly work with the media.   The Philip A. Hofmann Presidents Award for Best News Source recognizes those involved in making news that provide access, information, and insight to journalists covering stories important to the citizens of Central New York.

GUS BLIVEN, JOE GANLEY, MARIO ROSSI CAREER ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS Named in memory of Post-Standard Columnist Luther F. \"Gus\" Bliven; Herald-Journal editor, reporter, and columnist Joe Ganley, the first president of the Syracuse Press Club; and Herald-Journal and Post-Standard editor and columnist Mario Rossi.

SELWYN KERSHAW PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS AWARD Selwyn Kershaw was an SPC president and copy editor of the Syracuse Herald-Journal noted for his high standards of journalism.

PHILIP A. HOFMANN PRESIDENT\'S AWARD for BEST NEWS SOURCE Philip Hofmann was a managing editor of the Syracuse Herald-Journal/Herald-American and SPC president whose standards strived for the most effective job of serving public interest by the news media.
