Thank you for participating in the annual Syracuse Press Club awards competition. We are grateful for the turnout in submissions, particularly in light of the consolidations, cost cutting and economic challenges facing all forms of media today. We are in the process of taking all of these entries, sorting them into media and category piles, and then sending them off to judges outside of the Central New York area. When we get word from the judges, we will let the winners kn ow as soon as possible. Awards will be presented at our annual dinner on May 15th at Drumlins. We will post information about reservations for that event when it become available. In the meantime, please submit a nomination for one of our club awards. We are taking nominations for Career Achievement, Professional Standards, Newcomer, and News Source. Also note, we are still accepting applications for our $2,000 scholarship to be presented to a journalism/broadcasting student. Information on the club awards and the scholarship can be found on the front page. |
"Paramount among the responsibilities of a free press is the duty to prevent any part of the government from deceiving the people and sending them off to distant lands to die of foreign fevers and foreign shot and shell."--Hugo L Black, Associate Justice, US Supreme Court (Ruling that upheld the press’s right to publish the Pentagon Papers) |
