The Syracuse Press Club welcomed four new members to its Wall of Distinction in Syracuse on Thursday. October23, 2008.   Ceremonies   were held at the John H. Mulroy Civic Center in Syracuse. The Wall, honors Central New York broadcast and print legends.

About 60 people attended the event, which honored former Post-Standard deputy executive editor Tim Bunn, former WTVH-5 anchor Maureen Green. Publisher and editor of the Progressive Herald J. Luther Sylvahn, and former WSTM-TV anchor/reporter, Ron Graeff (Hastings).

John Nicholson, a former WSTM-TV anchor and now a teacher at Syracuse University, served as Master of Ceremonies for the evening.

Michael Connor, Executive director of the Syracuse Post-Standard, served as the keynote speaker.Connor talked about the challenges facing both print and broadcast newsrooms. Challenges that go beyond just the slowing economy, but are tied to the rapid drop in readership and viewers of traditional media outlets. Despite those challenges, Connor told the audience that the current environment also provided numerous opportunities for individuals and companies.

The surprise of the evening came from Vasti Marshall, the daughter of J. Luther Sylvahn ,who accepted the award on behalf of her deceased father. While accepting the award Marshall told the audience that she was shy and didn't have much to say. So she wanted to show her appreciation for the long overdue honor for her father in song. Marshall belted out a beautiful performance, and received a standing ovation from the audience.
The most emotional moment of the evening came when former Post-Standard deputy executive editor Tim Bunn took some time to thank his family. Bunn expressed his love for his wife of 40 years, Nancy. He also pointed out his mother in the audience and paid tribute to her efforts as a single mother to support her family and to make sure he and his siblings received a good education.
