Club Awards Nomination Form

The annual awards competition honors individuals and news organizations for their work on a particular story during the preceding year.

The Club Awards honors individuals for their work over a period of time.

We want to know from you who you think is worthy for four awards listed below.  The Press Club board of directors will review all nominations and announce the choices for  this year\'s honorees shortly before the May banquet. 

Club Awards

GUS BLIVEN, JOE GANLEY, MARIO ROSSI CAREER ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS Named in memory of Post-Standard Columnist Luther F. \"Gus\" Bliven; Herald-Journal editor, reporter, and columnist Joe Ganley, the first president of the Syracuse Press Club; and Herald-Journal and Post-Standard editor and columnist Mario Rossi.

SELWYN KERSHAW PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS AWARD Selwyn Kershaw was an SPC president and copy editor of the Syracuse Herald-Journal noted for his high standards of journalism.

A. BROHMANN ROTH NEWCOMER AWARD A. Brohmann Roth was a columnist for the Syracuse Herald-Journal who encouraged young people to do their best work and grow in their newly chosen field of journalism. (Nominee should be new to field of journalism within the past 3 years.)

PHILIP A. HOFMANN PRESIDENT\'S AWARD for BEST NEWS SOURCE Philip Hofmann was a managing editor of the Syracuse Herald-Journal/Herald-American and SPC president whose standards strived for the most effective job of serving public interest by the news media.

Shortly after graduating from Syracuse's Central High School in 1939, Bud Vanderveer joined the Herald-Journal. However, it wasn't until he returned from service with the U.S. Army in World War II that he began covering sports full-time - the career that made him one of the most respected and best-known sports writers in New York State.
